Mutual Ministry

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good... For we are all baptised by one Spirit into one body - whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free - and we are all given the one Spirit to drink." 1 Corinthians 12:7, 13

All members of St. Paul's, like all of God's children, are called through our baptism and its confirmation to minister to the world according to God's word. We do this together as a family of God and call on each other to share in these ministries using our individual blessings and gifts bestowed by God. Some are called to serve as full-time ministry professionals - rostered staff like pastors, associates in ministry, deacon(esses) and diaconal ministers. Others are called to serve God through their lives at home, at work and in the community. We are all, lay and clergy, called both to salvation and service by the relationship born of our baptismal promises with God.

In mutual ministry, everyone shares the gifts God has blessed them with, and we do the best we can to honor His word. The Mutual Ministry Committee is here to help make the most of those gifts and promote a focused approach to the ministry missions of St. Paul's. As such, it is responsible for keeping the congregation and Pastors aware of the direction and health of all the various ministries of St. Paul's. The committee identifies the congregation's needs for those professionals we refer to as rostered staff that are called to St. Paul's to help us in every aspect of our ministry.  They watch for continuing education opportunities for the rostered staff and lay members alike to help ensure leadership and ministry tools are always sharp. They conduct an exit interview when a rostered staff member is called away from St. Paul's to another ministry with the prayerful hope of improving the way St. Paul's approaches its ministries. The committee periodically reviews the rostered staff's letters of call, compensation and benefits to ensure they answer the needs of the congregation and staff alike.

The Mutual Ministry Committee is constantly alert to the needs and direction of the congregation and its staff and serves as a dedicated channel of communication between the two.  This helps to keep everybody unified in purpose and allows them to act as agents of reconciliation if the need arises. They realize that the better we each understand and appreciate what St. Paul's ministries are trying to accomplish and what roles the others in our family are playing in our efforts even as they live their own lives, the better we can each call upon our own gifts and play our own roles.

If you feel a need to share a concern, have an idea to improve the ministries of St. Paul's, or want to know how you can better share your gifts, the Mutual Ministry Committee would love to hear from you.  Contact the committee chair or call a committee member. Every contact with Mutual Ministry is handled with the strictest confidence unless the congregation member specifically requests otherwise.  We want to hear from you!
