The Pathfinders began in 1981 with a trip to the Myrtle Beach at a beach house called the “Davey Do”. A group of “young adults” stayed the weekend at beach with Rev. Dennis just after hurricane Dennis had left stormy weather and a flooded front yard for a group of 20 to 30 year olds and many of their children.
The next year, 1982, the Lutheran retreat center at the Isle of Palms was finished and we met for our annual beach trip and have been making the trip every year since. Shirley Spradley gave us our name “The Pathfinders” and it has stuck these 23 odd years. We can always find a path to the beach, a path to church and a path to the house of a friend for a good time.
We have celebrated with many retreats, parties, outings, and trips such as birthdays, Christmas dinners, Halloween and Valentine’s parties, lake picnics, Atlanta trips, and various other outings. Members have joined, left, moved, been very active or inactive but the great thing about the Pathfinder outings is we have become great friends, exchanged ideas about church, school, children, families, and life in general. We welcome members of all ages to join us for fun and fellowship.
